ABOUT...

Mrs. Zimmerman

Hi everyone!  I am so glad that you are visiting our class website.

I hope that you find it fun and helpful.

Now, a little bit about me...  This is my 16th year of teaching.  I've taught in both elementary and middle school, and have also held an out-of-classroom leadership position as a Reading Intervention teacher and coach.  Though I have tended to stress academics the most, I have, over time, come to understand the importance of the arts in a child's education.  In addition to reading, writing, and arithmetic, the arts, such as music, dance, painting, and theater are all crucial in developing well-rounded, complete individuals.

In fact, I have a passion for drawing, painting, baking, and interior design. I love bright colors and appreciate a space that is well designed, purposeful, and beautiful.  I will be teaching storytelling with yoga during our Art Wheel Rotation and I can't wait! Needless to say, I feel blessed to be at Rockdale VAPA Magnet. Rockdale offers a variety of artistic experiences that can not be found in other public schools.

I have a wonderful husband, Christian, who is also in education.  He is originally from Texas and has the southern charm to prove it. In his spare time, he is a songwriter and recording artist.  My son, J.C., is a high schooler who’s involved with school band and tennis.  He also LOVES skateboarding.  We have a teacup Yorkie named Duke.  He has the most gentle and loving spirit.  His tongue is so big that it always hangs out - maybe that is why he rarely barks!

J.C. loves to try new moves on his skateboard.

                    Self Portrait

This was one of my drawings from when I was in design school many years ago.  It was tricky drawing while looking into a mirror.

                      Meet Duke!

Duke is the baby in our family. He is a 3lb bundle of love and energy. Somehow, he always finds the softest spot in the house. He is quite the DUKE!
